By consciously caring for your wool felt hats with correct handling, storage and maintenance you can preserve its beauty, prolong its life and in turn reduce your environmental impact.
To make your product care journey a little easier, we’ve put together the ultimate care guide so your new item can be enjoyed for many years to come.
Cleaning
Felt hats should not be dry cleaned or washed under any circumstances. You can use a soft-bristled brush to remove any surface marks.
1. Gently brush the surface of the hat starting at the centre back, working your way around in a counter-clockÂwise direction.
2. Use long and gentle strokes with the brush until the marks disappear.
3. Don’t brush too hard or you may damage the felt.
If your hat accidentally gets wet, in the rain for instance, make sure you dry it as quickly as possible. Put the hat on a stand or stuff the crown with plain, colourless tissue so both the crown and the brim are supported, then allow it to dry naturally.
Lint can be removed from the hat using a lint brush, wide masking or painter’s tape:
1. Wrap a length of tape around your hand with the sticky side facing out.
2. Gently press the tape against the areas with lint with just enough pressure so the lint adheres.
3. Lift quickly to remove and you should see the transferred lint on the tape.
4. Repeat until all lint is collected.
Rolling & Packing
An essential travel companion, our collection of rollable hats are uniquely constructed from 100% ethically sourced wool felt, that can be loosely rolled and secured with their luxurious leather trimming.
In just three simple steps:
1. Fold your hat lengthways
2. Loosely roll to create a cone-like shape
3. Secure using the functional leather trimming.
Pack away in a dust bag for safekeeping while you travel.
Correct Handling
While a wool felt hat can be quite resilient, handling it with care and consideration can in turn extend its lifespan.
- Always hold a hat by the inside of the crown, rather than the brim so that the brim doesn’t warp over time.
- Avoid placing hats with brims that point down on a flat surface, as this will make them lose their shape.
- If you have a fedora, don’t hold it by the pinch at the front as this will damage the hat shape over time.
An easy rule to remember is to always place your hat upside down, on its crown so you don’t ruin the brim shape.
Storing your Felt Hat
Shop our collection of hat boxes here, or follow these simple tips to ensure your hat stays in pristine condition when you’re not using it.
- Store your hat in a box or on a clean surface.
- Make sure the hat is in a ventilated space away from direct light and moisture.
- If you’re not using a hatbox with a support, make sure the crown is supported by stuffing it with acid free tissue paper. Note: avoid printed or coloured paper as it may transfer onto your hat over time.
- Ensure the brim is not pressed against any hard surfaces. The key here is to ensure your brim keeps it's shape and doesn’t sink down or flatten.
- If your hat is rollable, don’t keep it rolled for prolonged periods of time as this will make it harder to get the creases out.
You can easily make a hat stand at home by covering a cylinder or by creating a hollow cylindrical shape from cardboard and adding plain, colourless tissue paper on the top end where the hat will rest. The height of the hat stand needs to be taller than the brim angle (so the hat brim does not rest on the surface).
